David Kneen, LCSW
My name is David Kneen and I am a biblical counselor with Cold Water Counseling. I am delighted to be contracting with Mimosa to provide biblically faithful care to all who would seek comfort, clarity, and change. I attended Davidson College for my BA in Psychology and then received my Masters In Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002. I’ve had a diverse career, beginning my work with emotionally and behaviorally disturbed kids and at risk teens and their families. I spent 6 years in an acute level 1 trauma and teaching hospital as a medical social worker and then 9 years as a hospice social worker and manager. I finally made it back to counseling, became certified as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and then started my own biblical counseling practice in 2014. Finding biblical counseling was like coming home and I hope I get to do this work for the rest of my life or until all the people are fixed and I get to be a sailboat captain. I work primarily with adults, teens, couples, and families on a variety of hurts, habits, and hangups. I am excited to be of service to you and our community, though I especially love serving the Church and pastors with respect to their own struggles and by supporting them in their ministry to their people. Please reach out! We all need a little help sometimes. Thank you for the opportunity to share and to be of service for the glory of Jesus.
Jasmine Smith, LCSWA
Hello! My name is Jasmine Smith. I am a certified Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate, with a Master of Social Work from Appalachian State University. I have experience working with Women in crises and facilitating expressive arts group sessions. I’m thrilled to join the Mimosa team and currently welcome clients from all backgrounds and areas of focus.
To me, counseling is a profound calling and sacred commitment, to simply walk alongside others. My goal is to accompany who I’m working with toward holistic health, wealth, and prosperity. On this journey, I frequently incorporate faith-based counseling and expressive arts therapies to help those I’m working with in deep healing and to move toward the well-being God intends for them. The journey of restoration and embracing God’s beautiful purposes for you is truly a beautiful one! We all need some support in this journey, and it would be an honor to serve you through your journey.
Dr. Cindy Peters
Early in her graduate studies in both experimental psychology and clinical psychology, Dr. Cindy Peters noted the “importance of applying research-based knowledge, especially that of neurodevelopment, to direct clinical care.” Her passion to assist others was influenced by her parents’ values, along with “profound experiences” and her faith in Christ. She believes this faith provides a structure that affects her daily life and her approaches with those she counsels. Dr. Peters desires that her genuineness as someone who is imperfect is perceived as a “safe place”, allowing her clients to “open up themselves.” She believes “passionately in applied approaches to treatment so people can actually see and track progress over time, to ‘re-moralize,’ and to re-build hope and healing.” Years ago, Dr. Peters was part of the vision discussion for MCCC as she provided therapeutic groups at Morganton First Baptist Church. Because of “variables at the time,” she was unable to assist in implementing the establishment of this Christian counseling center. Over the years she has observed the mission/ministry of MCCC, along with those who have served there. She is grateful now to “participate in the loving energy I sense at Mimosa, the presence of holy spirit, and the chance to continue to serve.”
